About Butler Football

Butler football dates back to 1887 and represents Butler University at the NCAA Division I FCS level as a member of the Pioneer Football League (PFL). Competing in a non-scholarship FCS conference, the Bulldogs have contended for PFL titles in various seasons and have reached the postseason through the conference’s automatic-bid pathway during years they won or shared the PFL championship. One of Butler’s foundational athletic figures is Tony Hinkle, a legendary coach and administrator whose impact is closely tied to Butler athletics.

The Bulldogs play home games at Sellick Bowl (Butler Bowl) on Butler’s Indianapolis campus. Opened in the 1920s era and seating approximately 5,600, it’s an outdoor stadium setting known for an intimate feel — a close-knit crowd of students, alumni, and Indianapolis-area fans that keeps you connected to every snap.

In the Pioneer Football League, conference matchups can carry added significance, including rivalry context against programs such as the Dayton Flyers and Valparaiso Beacons. If there’s a specific conference game you’re targeting, browsing Butler Bulldogs Football tickets early is the smartest move.
