This page covers everything you need — from understanding how WIAA State Basketball works to finding the right tickets and knowing what to expect when you arrive.

About WIAA State Basketball

The WIAA State Basketball Tournament is Wisconsin’s annual high school basketball state championship, held each March and sanctioned by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). The boys’ state tournament is primarily hosted at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, while the girls’ state tournament has been held at the Resch Center in Green Bay in recent years. With origins dating back to 1916, “State” has become one of the signature events on Wisconsin’s high school sports calendar—drawing large crowds as communities travel to support their teams.

The tournament is built around a single-elimination format. Teams advance through regional and sectional rounds at host sites across the state, then qualify for the state finals where semifinal and championship games are played at the central state venue over a multi-day weekend. Competition is split into multiple divisions based on school enrollment, creating separate title paths for schools of different sizes.

What’s at stake is simple and massive: a WIAA state championship in a team’s division—the highest honor in Wisconsin high school basketball—along with state championship (gold) trophy recognition and runner-up and qualifier awards. Wisconsin’s state tournament has long served as a showcase for marquee prep talent from across the state. If you’re planning to attend WIAA State Basketball, browsing tickets early is the smartest move.

How Much Do WIAA State Basketball Tickets Cost?

WIAA State Basketball tickets typically range from around $12–$30 for general/single-session tickets to higher prices for premium lower-bowl seating or all-session options, with premium packages running higher. Exact pricing can vary by session and division.

A few factors tend to drive cost. Championship sessions commonly price differently than semifinals, and matchups with strong community travel can raise demand. Seat location matters as well—lower-bowl views closer to the court typically run higher than upper-level seating—and single-session vs. all-tournament access can change the overall value depending on how many games you plan to attend.

No hidden fees. At Box Office Ticket Sales, the price you see is the price you pay. All fees are shown before checkout — no surprise charges when you reach the final step.

WIAA State Basketball Seating and Arena Information

At the state finals—especially at the Kohl Center in Madison—the Arena setup creates a classic championship feel: a full bowl surrounding the court, loud fan sections, and a clear separation between value-friendly upper levels and closer, lower-bowl views. With seating along the sidelines and behind both baskets, you can tailor your ticket choice to how you want to experience tournament day.

Best Ways to Experience WIAA State Basketball

The right access depends on what kind of tournament day experience you're after:

• Best value: Upper-level seating and seats behind the baskets — a strong way to be in the building at a lower price point
• Closest to the action: Lower-bowl sideline seats nearest the court — feel the pace of the game up close
• Best overall view: Lower-bowl center-court sideline seats near courtside — strong sightlines on the court
• For groups and premium experiences: Suite and club seating levels — added comfort and privacy for groups or special occasions

Getting Ready for WIAA State Basketball Tournament Day

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for a multi-game championship schedule where entry lines, parking, and concourse traffic can build quickly.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Cellular service near large events can get congested on tournament days. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Give yourself extra time for entry and security, especially on high-demand dates.
• Parking: Nearby parking is available in university and city parking garages/ramps within walking distance of the arena; lots fill quickly on event days.
• Rideshare: Rideshare drop-off and pickup is available near the arena along designated downtown/campus streets.
• Public Transit: Madison Metro bus routes serve the downtown/campus area near the Kohl Center; the arena is within walking distance of the UW–Madison campus and State Street.
• Bag Policy: The Kohl Center enforces a clear-bag policy; small clutch bags and medically necessary bags are generally permitted. Oversized and non-clear bags are prohibited.
• Payment/Cashless: Bring a card or mobile payment — many vendors are cashless. The Kohl Center is cashless, with cash-to-card conversion available on site.
• What to Bring: Bring your mobile ticket, a clear bag if carrying belongings, and layered clothing for a comfortable arena environment. Cards/mobile payment are useful for concessions.
