About Elizabeth City State University Vikings Football

Elizabeth City State University Vikings Football represents Elizabeth City State University, a public historically Black university (HBCU) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System. The Vikings compete in NCAA Division II football as members of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), one of the oldest historically Black athletic conferences in the country.

ECSU has competed in CIAA play for decades and has produced CIAA division and conference contenders across its history. The program’s schedule centers on regional conference matchups that bring plenty of familiar opponents and a strong travel-fan presence throughout the season.

Home games are played at Roebuck Stadium, an on-campus venue in Elizabeth City with an approximate capacity of 6,000. The atmosphere leans into HBCU game-day traditions—especially the marching band performances and halftime culture that make being in the stands a big part of the experience.

Within the CIAA, the Vikings maintain regional rivalries—particularly with other North Carolina and Virginia HBCU programs in the conference—which can drive demand for key weekends. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Elizabeth City State University Vikings Football tickets early is the smartest move.
