About Cognizant Classic In The Palm Beaches

The Cognizant Classic In The Palm Beaches is a professional PGA Tour golf tournament held annually at PGA National Resort’s Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, typically in late February or early March. First played in 1972 (as the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic), the event has a long lineage on the PGA Tour and spent many years known as the Honda Classic—one of Florida’s established stops. Beginning with the 2024 edition, the tournament became the Cognizant Classic In The Palm Beaches under Cognizant’s title sponsorship and remains a key part of the Tour’s Florida Swing.

Competition is contested as 72-hole stroke play over four days (Thursday through Sunday), with a field of approximately 132–144 players. After 36 holes, a cut typically trims the field to the top 65 players and ties for the weekend rounds. The winner is the player with the lowest aggregate score over 72 holes, with ties decided by sudden-death playoff.

Beyond the trophy and title, the tournament plays for a multi-million-dollar purse (roughly in the $8–9 million range in recent editions) with a seven-figure winner’s share, plus FedExCup points and Official World Golf Ranking points. PGA National’s Champion Course is known for its demanding finish—especially “the Bear Trap” (holes 15–17), a Jack Nicklaus–designed and water-heavy gauntlet that frequently reshapes the leaderboard late on Sunday. Past champions from the event’s recent eras include Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy, Russell Henley, and Sungjae Im. If you’re planning to attend Cognizant Classic In The Palm Beaches, browsing tickets early is the smartest move.
