About Evansville Purple Aces Basketball

Evansville Purple Aces men’s basketball competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The program’s history includes five NCAA College Division (small-college) national championships (1959, 1960, 1964, 1965, and 1971), ranking second all-time in that era, highlighted by a perfect 29–0 season in 1965. Legendary head coach Arad McCutchan led Evansville to all five titles and is enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame; notable Purple Aces figures also include Jerry Sloan, Don Buse, Larry Humes, and Marcus Wilson.

On game nights, the Purple Aces play at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. Opened in 2011, the modern downtown multipurpose arena holds approximately 10,000 for college basketball and also hosts concerts, hockey, and community events. The setting creates a close-to-the-court feel that fits a passionate, community-rooted following.

In the MVC, rivalry and regional matchups can drive demand — especially meetings with Indiana State (a longstanding in-state conference rivalry) and Southern Illinois, along with historic in-state ties with Butler. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Evansville Purple Aces Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.

Getting Ready for Evansville Purple Aces Basketball Game Night

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially in a downtown arena setting where entry lines, traffic, and pregame timing can pick up quickly.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Mobile service near Ford Center gets congested on game nights. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Gates/doors typically open approximately one hour before tip-off.
• Use public transit if you can — it's often faster than driving on game night. Ford Center is accessible via local METS (Metropolitan Evansville Transit System) bus service.
• Plan your rideshare pickup point — post-game pickups near Ford Center can take longer than expected. Rideshare pickup and drop-off are available at designated downtown curbside areas near the arena.
• Check the bag policy before you go so there are no surprises at the entrance. Ford Center restricts large bags; small bags and clear bags are generally permitted subject to search.
• Bring a card or mobile payment — Ford Center is cashless.
• Re-entry is not permitted — plan to stay once you're inside.
