About North Alabama Football

North Alabama football competes at the NCAA Division I FCS level and plays its football schedule in the United Athletic Conference (with primary institutional membership in the ASUN Conference). The Lions’ defining era came in the 1990s, when head coach Bobby Wallace led the program to an incredible three-peat of NCAA Division II national championships in 1993, 1994, and 1995. The program’s legacy includes major names tied to UNA football, including Harlon Hill, Janoris Jenkins, and Ronald McKinnon.

On Saturdays in Florence, the Lions take the field at Braly Municipal Stadium, a historic home venue that opened in 1948 and has a capacity of approximately 14,000. Braly is known for its long-standing connection to high-level college football, including its history as a host of the NCAA Division II national championship game, and it remains a central gathering place for fans across northwest Alabama.

North Alabama’s rivalries trace back to its Division II era, highlighted by matchups with the West Alabama Tigers and West Georgia Wolves, and the Lions’ FCS era has helped spark new conference matchups—such as games against Austin Peay and prior meetings with Jacksonville State before its move to the FBS level. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing North Alabama Lions Football tickets early is the smartest move.
