About Mercyhurst Lakers Basketball

Mercyhurst Lakers Basketball represents Mercyhurst University in NCAA Division I as a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), beginning with the 2024–25 season. Mercyhurst athletics competed for much of its history at the NCAA Division II level—primarily in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)—before making the move to Division I, marking a major milestone for the program.

In Mercyhurst’s first Division I men’s basketball season (2024–25), the team went 15–16 overall and finished third in NEC regular-season play at 9–7 under head coach Gary Manchel. The Lakers are also in a multi-year NCAA reclassification period before becoming fully eligible for Division I postseason play.

Home games are played at Mercyhurst Athletic Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, giving fans a straightforward, on-campus game day experience. With the program now competing in the NEC, matchups around the conference help set the rhythm of the season and can influence ticket demand throughout the schedule.

As a newer NEC member, Mercyhurst is still building conference rivalries, with regional and conference proximity helping shape developing matchups—such as games against the Robert Morris Colonials and other NEC opponents.
