About Mercyhurst Football

Mercyhurst football competes at the NCAA Division I FCS level and plays in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The Lakers entered a new era beginning in Fall 2024, transitioning up from a long Division II run that included multiple NCAA Division II playoff appearances. Head coach Thomas Sydeski has led the program through its move into Division I football, including a milestone first Division I win during the 2024 season.

Home games are played at Saxon Stadium in Erie, Pennsylvania, an on-campus setting with an intimate feel and a capacity of approximately 3,000. The environment is typical of smaller-college football—close sightlines, a tight connection between the crowd and the field, and a game-day vibe that brings students, alumni, and the Erie community together.

Mercyhurst’s rivalry roots include regional matchups from its time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), highlighted by a crosstown rivalry with Gannon University. In the NEC, the Lakers are building new conference matchups with teams such as the Duquesne Dukes, Robert Morris Colonials, and Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Mercyhurst Lakers tickets early is the smartest move.
