About San Jose State Spartans Football

San Jose State Spartans football is one of the oldest college football programs in the western United States, with roots dating back to 1893, and it competes at the NCAA Division I FBS level in the Mountain West Conference. Across its history, the program has claimed multiple conference championships in various leagues, including a WAC championship in 1990 and the Mountain West Conference title in 2020. The Spartans’ story includes memorable figures connected to the program such as Bill Walsh, Dick Vermeil, James Jones, and David Fales, along with NFL talent like Tyler Ervin and inspirational moments like Neil Parry’s journey.

On Saturdays in San Jose, the Spartans play at CEFCU Stadium, an open-air home near campus that first opened in 1933 (originally Spartan Stadium) and was renamed CEFCU Stadium in 2016. With an approximate capacity of 21,100, it’s a compact venue that keeps fans close to the field and leans into a strong local and alumni presence on game day.

In the Mountain West, matchups that drive extra attention include rivalries with the Fresno State Bulldogs, the San Diego State Aztecs, the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors, and periodic games against the Stanford Cardinal in the Bay Area. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing San Jose State Spartans Football tickets early is the smartest move.
