Jordi Savall Tickets

If you're searching for Jordi Savall tickets, you're planning an evening with one of the foremost interpreters of early and Baroque music. A Grammy Award winner, UNESCO Artist for Peace, viola da gamba virtuoso, conductor, composer, and musicologist, Jordi Savall has spent more than five decades bringing medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoire to international audiences through historically informed performance.

This page covers everything you need — from what the show is and what to expect, to finding the right seats and buying with complete confidence.

Show Information

Jordi Savall is a live early-music concert performance centered on the viola da gamba, period instruments, and historically rooted repertoire. Savall conceives and directs concert programs drawn from historical manuscripts and early-music traditions, performing as a viola da gamba player and leading ensembles that he founded: Hespèrion XX, later Hespèrion XXI, in 1974; La Capella Reial de Catalunya in 1987; and Le Concert des Nations in 1989. He also founded the record label Alia Vox in 1998.

A Jordi Savall performance is a curated concert program rather than a scripted theater piece, with music often organized around a historical theme, region, manuscript, or cultural journey. Programs may feature Savall as a soloist, small period-instrument ensembles, vocal works, or full Baroque orchestral repertoire, depending on the engagement. Current performances tour internationally at major concert halls, universities, festivals, and cultural institutions across Europe and North America. Most programs run approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours, with intermission varying by program and venue.

Savall is widely credited as a central figure in the modern revival and preservation of early music, especially through his role in bringing the viola da gamba back to international prominence. His acclaimed performances on the soundtrack of the 1991 film Tous les matins du monde introduced his artistry to a broad global audience, and his recordings have received repeated international critical awards across a career spanning more than 50 years.

Story Summary

A Jordi Savall concert is a carefully shaped musical experience built around early, medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music. Programs often trace a theme across cultures, centuries, or regions, using historically informed performance to bring rarely heard repertoire into the concert hall. The focus is on live musicianship, period instruments, and the expressive world of the viola da gamba.

Across the evening, the program may move from intimate and contemplative passages into more rhythmic, dance-like works. Depending on the performance, Savall may lead Hespèrion XXI in instrumental music, La Capella Reial de Catalunya in choral works, or Le Concert des Nations in Baroque orchestral repertoire. The result is a musical arc that can feel meditative, scholarly, vibrant, and deeply human within the same performance.

No prior knowledge of early music or music history is required. Jordi Savall performances are designed to be absorbing for specialists and newcomers alike, with the sound of the instruments, the shape of the program, and the immediacy of live performance carrying the experience directly to the audience.

Show Highlights

Jordi Savall concerts are known for intimate virtuosity, historically informed interpretation, and programs that connect musical traditions across time and place.

• Viola da Gamba Solo Performances — Savall's signature instrument takes center stage in solo and small-ensemble pieces that showcase the viol's warm, expressive, vocal-like tone. These moments are often among the most intimate parts of the evening, placing the audience close to the sound world that defines his career.
• Transcultural Program Journeys — Many Savall programs trace music across regions and eras, including Mediterranean, Iberian, and broader world traditions. These concerts often bring musicians from multiple cultures together on one stage, creating a layered musical conversation across history.
• Hespèrion XXI Ensemble Sets — Savall's founding ensemble performs Renaissance and early Baroque instrumental works using period instruments. The blend of plucked, bowed, and wind instruments gives these selections a distinctive color and texture.
• La Capella Reial de Catalunya Choral Pieces — Vocal works add another dimension to the concert experience, with sacred and secular music expanding the evening beyond purely instrumental repertoire. These pieces bring text, harmony, and historical vocal traditions into the program.
• Le Concert des Nations Orchestral Works — When Savall leads full Baroque orchestral repertoire, the scale broadens while the period-instrument focus remains central. These performances highlight his work as a conductor and interpreter of historically informed orchestral music.
• *Music of Tous les matins du monde*** — Repertoire associated with the celebrated film soundtrack holds a special place in Savall's legacy. These selections connect audiences to the recording that helped introduce his viola da gamba artistry to listeners around the world.

Jordi Savall Seating Guide

Jordi Savall performs in concert halls, university venues, festivals, and cultural institutions of varying sizes across international touring engagements. Where you sit shapes how you experience the balance of the viola da gamba, period instruments, vocal ensembles, and full orchestral works.

Best Seats for Jordi Savall

For an early-music concert, the best seats balance clear sightlines with warm, detailed sound.

• Best value: Upper mezzanine and rear orchestra sections — these seats often provide a strong full-stage perspective while keeping you within a clear listening range for ensemble balance.
• Closest to the stage: Front orchestra sections — ideal if you want proximity to Savall, the period instruments, and the detailed physical artistry of live performance.
• Best overall experience: Mid-orchestra and front mezzanine sections — these areas usually offer a balanced view and a natural blend of solo, ensemble, choral, and orchestral sound.
• For families with young children: Choose aisle-access seats when possible, especially since programs can run approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours and the concert setting is best suited to attentive listening.
• For groups: Coordinate contiguous seats early, since blocks in popular orchestra and mezzanine sections can sell through quickly for major concert-hall and festival dates.

Getting Ready for Show Night

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation makes the full experience run smoothly from arrival through the final bow.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Cell service around the venue can be congested on busy performance nights. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before heading out so you're ready at the door without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard at most theaters. A portable battery pack is worth having, especially if you're combining the show with dinner or other activities.
• Arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime. Venue doors open well before the show begins; arriving early gives you time to find your seats and settle in before the house lights go down — and avoids the disruption of late seating, which many theaters restrict.
• Know the venue's phone and photography policy. Audiences are typically asked not to photograph or record during live concert performances. Silence your phone before the music begins so the hall stays focused on the performance.
• For families. Jordi Savall concerts are appropriate for most ages, but the experience is best suited to attentive listening. If you are bringing younger children, prepare them for a quiet concert setting and a program that may run up to about 2 hours.
