This page covers everything you need — from understanding how the Mountain West Basketball Tournament works to finding the right tickets and knowing what to expect when you arrive.

About Mountain West Basketball Tournament

The Mountain West Basketball Tournament is the Mountain West Conference’s annual postseason championship, held in early-to-mid March as part of college basketball’s “Championship Week.” Played at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, it’s a destination-style tournament with a true neutral-site feel—where multiple fan bases turn the week into a high-stakes trip centered around basketball on the Strip.

The tournament is a single-elimination bracket in which all member institutions qualify, typically seeded 1 through 11 or 12 depending on conference membership. Seeding is based on regular-season conference standings, and the event runs across roughly four to five days, moving through the first round, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the championship game. The payoff is enormous: the champion earns the Mountain West Tournament title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament, with deep runs also impacting at-large resumes and NCAA seeding for top teams.

The Mountain West has built a strong national profile, with programs such as San Diego State, Utah State, Boise State, Nevada, UNLV, New Mexico, Colorado State, and Fresno State shaping the tournament’s recent history. San Diego State’s 2023 run to the national title game elevated the conference spotlight, and the Vegas setting has produced countless pressure moments—including buzzer-beating finishes that define the bracket atmosphere. If you’re planning to attend the Mountain West Basketball Tournament, browsing tickets early is the smartest move.

Getting Ready for Mountain West Basketball Tournament Game Day

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for a multi-day bracket where you may be attending multiple games across a session.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Cellular service near large events can get congested on game days. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.

• Public Transit: RTC Transit bus routes serve the area along Maryland Parkway and nearby Strip corridors, with the arena located on the UNLV campus a short distance from the Las Vegas Strip.
• Rideshare: Use the designated rideshare pickup/drop-off zones on the UNLV campus near the arena.
• Bag Policy: The Thomas & Mack Center enforces a clear-bag policy; small clutch purses are typically permitted, with larger and non-clear bags prohibited.
• Bring a card or mobile payment — many vendors are cashless.
• What to bring: Mobile tickets, a valid ID, a permitted clear bag, and layers for a climate-controlled arena—especially if you’re attending multiple games in a session.
