About Long Island University Sharks Women's Basketball

Long Island University competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), with women’s basketball serving as a key part of the school’s blue-and-white Sharks identity. LIU unified its athletics under the “Sharks” banner in 2019, consolidating the Brooklyn (Blackbirds) and Post (Pioneers) programs under one Division I identity, and the program’s path to national attention runs through NEC regular-season and tournament success.

The Sharks play their home games at Steinberg Wellness Center on LIU’s Brooklyn campus. With an approximate capacity of 2,500, it offers a compact, close-to-the-action Arena environment that fits the style of NEC basketball and helps keep the crowd engaged throughout the game.

In conference play, NEC matchups help define the season slate, including games against Fairleigh Dickinson, Saint Francis (PA), Wagner, Central Connecticut State, and Merrimack.
