This page covers everything you need — from understanding how Coretta Scott King Classic works to finding the right tickets and knowing what to expect when you arrive.

About Coretta Scott King Classic

The Coretta Scott King Classic is an annual NCAA Division I college basketball showcase held at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, typically in mid-to-late January around the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend. The event honors the legacy of Coretta Scott King—civil rights leader and the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—by pairing high-profile college basketball with MLK-weekend community-focused programming and youth engagement activations in the Newark area.

On the court, the Classic is built as a neutral-site doubleheader: four teams, two games, one day. Each matchup is a standard NCAA regular-season contest (two 20-minute halves for men’s and women’s college basketball) that counts toward the participating teams’ records. Because the games impact rankings and NCAA Tournament resumes, the setting doubles as a high-profile measuring-stick opportunity with national exposure—especially when ranked opponents are involved.

The field has already featured nationally recognized programs and AP Top 25 teams. The inaugural January 2025 edition was a women’s basketball doubleheader featuring UCLA vs. Baylor and Texas vs. Maryland, and the January 2026 edition featured four AP Top 25 teams—Ohio State, TCU, Michigan, and Vanderbilt—highlighted by an Ohio State–TCU matchup. With a modern arena atmosphere at Prudential Center, the Classic delivers an elevated showcase feel from the opening tip-off through the final horn. If you’re planning to attend Coretta Scott King Classic, browsing tickets early is the smartest move.

How Much Do Coretta Scott King Classic Tickets Cost?

Coretta Scott King Classic tickets typically range from around $25 to $75 for upper-level and general seating to $125–$300+ or more for premium lower-bowl and courtside seats, with premium packages running higher.

Pricing is most affected by the slate: the presence of AP Top 25 programs, the specific matchups on the doubleheader card, and demand tied to the MLK-weekend scheduling can all push prices upward. As game day gets closer, remaining inventory can tighten—while upper-level seats are often the best place to find value if you want the atmosphere of Prudential Center without the premium cost of lower-bowl positioning.

No hidden fees. At Box Office Ticket Sales, the price you see is the price you pay. All fees are shown before checkout — no surprise charges when you reach the final step.

Getting Ready for Coretta Scott King Classic Game Day

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for a doubleheader where you may be in the arena for several hours.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Cellular service near large events can get congested on game days. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Doors typically open ahead of tip-off (commonly 1–1.5 hours before the first game); give yourself extra time for entry and security, especially on high-demand dates.
• Public transit. Prudential Center is accessible via NJ Transit and PATH, and Newark Penn Station is a short walk from the arena with rail, light rail, and bus connections.
• Rideshare. Designated rideshare pickup and drop-off zones are used near the arena on event days.
• Bag policy. Prudential Center enforces a clear-bag policy; small clutch bags within size limits are permitted, and larger or non-clear bags are generally prohibited.
• Bring a card or mobile payment — many vendors are cashless. Prudential Center is a cashless venue, and cash-to-card kiosks are available for concessions and purchases.
• What to bring. Bring your mobile ticket, a permitted clear or clutch bag, and a payment card for the cashless venue.
