There’s nothing quite like football Saturdays in an intimate on-campus setting, where the crowd is close to the action and the energy builds from the tailgates straight into the stands. At Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, the green, white, and gold create a game day backdrop that feels personal, loud, and proudly local—exactly what you want from college football. Whether you’ve followed the program since its first season or you’re planning your first trip to campus, Charlotte 49ers Football tickets put you inside the experience.

This page covers everything you need — from choosing the right seats at Jerry Richardson Stadium to knowing what to expect when you arrive on game day.

About Charlotte Football

Charlotte football is the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s NCAA Division I FBS program and a growing force in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Established in 2013, the 49ers are one of the newest FBS programs—building momentum quickly after transitioning to FBS and joining Conference USA in 2015, then moving to the AAC beginning in 2023. A major milestone arrived in the 2019 season, when Charlotte earned its first bowl appearance by reaching the Bahamas Bowl.

The program’s early era has been shaped by key leadership figures. Brad Lambert (head coach from 2011–2018) built the foundation from the ground up and guided Charlotte through its transition to FBS. Will Healy (2019–2022) led the team to that first bowl game in 2019 and helped bring national attention to the program. In 2023, Charlotte hired head coach Biff Poggi as the team continues working to establish itself in a competitive AAC landscape.

Home games are played at Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Opened in 2013, it’s an on-campus stadium built specifically for the football program, with green-and-gold accents that match team colors. With a capacity of approximately 15,314 (expandable), the stadium delivers an intimate atmosphere, a growing student section, and a tailgate culture that has expanded as the fan base and traditions have developed.

Because Charlotte is a newer program, its football rivalries are still evolving, but regional and conference matchups have developed competitive significance—especially against teams such as the Florida Atlantic Owls and East Carolina Pirates, along with other AAC opponents. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Charlotte 49ers Football tickets early is the smartest move.
