About Bluefield State Football

Bluefield State University’s Big Blues compete in NCAA Division II and have longstanding ties to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). As a historically Black university (HBCU) in Bluefield, West Virginia, Bluefield State has a long athletic heritage, with football as a meaningful part of the school’s identity.

The program’s history includes a long hiatus: Bluefield State discontinued football in the 1950s amid integration-era pressures and did not field a team for many decades. The school later rebuilt its athletics footprint and announced the revival of football, with the modern Big Blues working to re-establish competitive play.

In the CIAA landscape, Bluefield State lines up against a roster of conference opponents that helps shape the season’s most anticipated matchups. If there’s a specific conference game you’re targeting, browsing Bluefield State College Big Blues Football tickets early is the smartest move.
