About Beyond Wonderland Festival

Beyond Wonderland was created by Insomniac Events and launched in Southern California in 2010. Founded by Insomniac, the company led by Pasquale Rotella and also known for the Electric Daisy Carnival franchise, the festival was designed as an “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired electronic music event with elaborate production, theatrical elements, and interactive art woven into the experience.

Today, Beyond Wonderland operates as an annual 2-day touring electronic music festival brand. Its flagship edition, Beyond Wonderland SoCal, is held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California, while additional editions have brought the Wonderland concept to venues including the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, and Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois. The festival’s expansion beyond Southern California has made it a major Insomniac destination for EDM fans in multiple regions.

The lineup typically spans house, dubstep, trance, bass, techno, and festival-mainstage sounds, with past performers including Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Kaskade, Above & Beyond, Zedd, Illenium, Excision, Alesso, Deadmau5, Martin Garrix, Subtronics, and Dom Dolla. Beyond Wonderland stands apart through its fantasy theme, costumed attendee culture, themed stages, interactive installations, and large-scale Insomniac production featuring lighting, visuals, and pyrotechnics.

What to Expect at Beyond Wonderland Festival

Beyond Wonderland Festival is a touring EDM experience, so the specific layout changes by edition. The brand has been staged at fairgrounds-style event centers, amphitheater settings, and speedway grounds, with each stop adapting the Wonderland theme to its venue. Across editions, the experience centers on general admission festival grounds, multiple performance areas, and VIP areas for upgraded access.

The festival’s biggest signature is its immersive “Alice in Wonderland” fantasy environment. Expect theatrical design, costumed performers, interactive art, and a visual style that turns the grounds into a surreal dance-music world. Insomniac’s production approach is central to the event, with lighting, pyrotechnics, large-scale visuals, and themed staging shaping the atmosphere from the first sets through the headliners.

Musically, Beyond Wonderland Festival brings together several lanes of electronic dance music. Fans can move between house, trance, dubstep, bass, techno, and mainstage EDM sounds throughout the weekend. That wide programming range makes it a strong fit for groups with different dance-music preferences.

The food and vendor scene follows the model of large Insomniac productions, with festival food vendors, merchandise booths, and market-style areas adding to the overall experience. Between sets, attendees can explore themed installations, vendor areas, and interactive spaces without stepping away from the festival’s fantasy atmosphere.

The crowd is typically high-energy, community-driven, and deeply tied to EDM festival culture. Costumes, kandi, group outfits, and PLUR values are part of the Beyond Wonderland identity, giving the event a colorful, social, and immersive feeling across the weekend.

Know Before You Go

Beyond Wonderland Festival operates under a bag policy that is updated and enforced each year. The specific dimensions, permitted materials, and exceptions are published on the official festival website before the event — confirm current details before you pack.

Prohibited-item rules can vary by Beyond Wonderland edition and venue. Commonly prohibited items at festivals of this kind include outside food or alcohol, professional camera equipment, drones, and safety-concern items, so it is worth checking the official event rules for your specific city before arrival.

Re-entry policies vary by edition and venue, so confirm the current policy before leaving the festival grounds. If you are attending with a group, make sure everyone understands whether leaving and returning is allowed for that specific event.

Entry requirements may also depend on the market. Beyond Wonderland editions commonly operate as 18+ or 21+ events depending on the venue and city, so bring a valid government-issued ID and review the age policy tied to your selected date.

Beyond Wonderland Festival Access & Festival Map Guide

Beyond Wonderland Festival is primarily a general admission festival experience, with VIP areas available at many editions. That means your best viewing position is usually shaped by when you arrive at a stage, how you move between sets, and which access level you select rather than a fixed seat assignment.

Best Viewing Strategies at Beyond Wonderland Festival

• Best Value Approach — General admission gives you access to the festival grounds and stages, making it a strong choice if you want to experience multiple subgenres across the weekend.
• Catching Headliners — For major performers such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Kaskade, Zedd, Illenium, Excision, Alesso, Deadmau5, Martin Garrix, Subtronics, or Dom Dolla, plan to arrive early if you want a closer position.
• Sound and View Balance — Mid-crowd positioning often provides a comfortable mix of stage visuals, sound, and space to dance without pushing into the densest front-stage areas.
• VIP Viewing Areas — VIP access typically offers elevated access and amenities, making it a worthwhile upgrade for fans who want a more comfortable festival experience.
• Multi-Stage and Attraction Navigation — Use themed art installations, vendor areas, and major production landmarks as meeting points when moving between sets with friends.

Getting Ready for Festival Weekend

• Understand how your ticket works before you go. Review the delivery and entry details tied to your order so you know how your Beyond Wonderland Festival pass will be scanned or processed at the event.
• Download your pass before you head to the event. Cell service near busy festival venues during peak hours can be unreliable — save your ticket to your phone's wallet or screenshot it in advance.
• Charge your phone fully every morning. Your phone is your credential, schedule, map, and camera — carry a portable battery pack.
• Plan your arrival time around your first priority. Gates open before the first sets; arriving early means shorter lines and time to orient before crowds build.
