About Laguna Playhouse

Laguna Playhouse is a historic professional theatre and music hall located at 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach, California. Founded in 1920 as a community theatre, it has grown into one of the oldest continuously operating theatres on the West Coast. Its current Moulton Theatre facility opened in 1969, and the venue is operated by Laguna Playhouse, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mainstage seats approximately 400 guests, giving performances an intimate feel.

The venue presents year-round programming that includes plays, musicals, stand-up comedy, music-based shows, family and children’s programming, and education and outreach programs for youth and adults. As a professional Actors’ Equity house with a century-long legacy, Laguna Playhouse holds a significant place in the Laguna Beach arts community and continues to serve as a cornerstone of the city’s cultural district.

Set within Laguna Canyon near the heart of Laguna Beach, Laguna Playhouse is known for professional productions in a close, personal performance space where sightlines stay intimate throughout the house.

Location & Transportation

Laguna Playhouse is located at 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA 92652 — along Laguna Canyon Road near the heart of Laguna Beach and the city’s cultural district.

Driving and Parking: Most patrons arrive by car. The venue sits on Laguna Canyon Road, also known as State Route 133, with on-site and nearby lot parking available. Downtown Laguna Beach parking fills quickly on event evenings and during the summer tourist season, so arriving early is the best approach for smoother parking and entry.

Transit: Public transit options are limited, but Orange County Transportation Authority bus service and Laguna Beach Transit operate local routes serving the area. Transit can work for some visits, though driving remains the most common way to reach the theatre.

Rideshare: Rideshare drop-off and pickup are practical because of the venue’s canyon-road location. During peak season, expect congestion around downtown Laguna Beach, especially near popular arrival and departure times.

Nearby Accommodation: Laguna Beach offers coastal hotels, inns, and resorts within a short drive of the venue. For the easiest access, look near the downtown village or along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Venue Navigation

Laguna Playhouse is an intimate, single-house theatre, so getting around is straightforward once you arrive. Understanding the simple layout in advance helps you move from the entrance to your seat with less stress before curtain time.

Entrances and Access: The main entrance faces Laguna Canyon Road, giving patrons direct access from the venue’s street-facing approach into the theatre.

Seating Levels: Laguna Playhouse uses a single-level intimate theatre configuration with mainstage seating oriented toward the stage. With roughly 400 seats, the room is compact enough that most locations keep the performance close.

Accessibility: Accessible seating and services are available at Laguna Playhouse. Patrons needing accommodations can work with the box office so seating and assistance are handled before the performance.

Getting to Your Section: Staff and ushers assist patrons to seats, and the intimate scale makes navigation simple. Arriving with your ticket ready helps the entry process move quickly and gives you time to settle in before the show begins.

Dining Options

Inside Laguna Playhouse

Lobby concessions and bar service are typically available for performances at Laguna Playhouse. For the smoothest experience, plan to arrive early enough to visit the lobby before showtime, especially for popular productions and weekend performances.

Outside the Venue — Downtown Laguna Beach

Downtown Laguna Beach and the village area offer numerous restaurants, cafés, and coastal dining options a short distance from the theatre. Many options are concentrated around the Pacific Coast Highway and the downtown district, making dinner before a show or drinks afterward easy to plan into the evening.

Security & Policies

Laguna Playhouse maintains security and venue policies that are updated regularly and may vary by event. Before attending, reviewing the current policy on the venue's official website is strongly recommended.

Entry Procedures: Entry includes digital and printed ticket verification. As with many live theatre performances, latecomer seating policies typically apply, so arriving before curtain time helps you avoid missing the start of the show.

How Much Do Tickets to Laguna Playhouse Cost?

Laguna Playhouse ticket prices vary significantly depending on the type of event, the production or performer, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from comedy and special events to popular plays and musicals.

For plays and musicals, tickets are approximately $40–$100 depending on the show, performance date, and seat location. Weekend performances and popular productions can trend higher, especially for prime seats in the center of the house.

For comedy and special events, tickets are approximately $35–$90. Pricing can shift based on the performer, demand for the date, and how close the seats are to the stage.

Buying earlier generally secures better seat selection, particularly for popular productions and limited runs in an intimate house. As inventory shrinks and the performance date approaches, the best remaining seats can become harder to find at the strongest value.

Laguna Playhouse Seating Guide

Laguna Playhouse offers an intimate single-house seating layout with roughly 400 seats oriented toward the stage. Because the room is compact, seat choice is less about being far away and more about balancing price, center sightlines, and proximity to the performers.

Best Seats at Laguna Playhouse

• Best value: Rear and side sections typically offer the most affordable pricing while still keeping you inside an intimate theatre where the stage remains close.
• Closest to the action: Front rows closest to the stage provide the strongest sense of proximity and are ideal for guests who want to feel fully immersed in the performance.
• Best overall experience: Center orchestra and mainstage rows generally provide the best combination of sightline, sound, and stage perspective.
• Premium and group options: Prime center seating serves as the premium choice for many performances, while group sales are typically arranged through the box office for parties attending together.

Getting Ready for Your Laguna Playhouse Event

Once your tickets are confirmed, a few practical preparations make your visit run significantly smoother — especially for an evening performance in Laguna Beach where parking and coastal conditions can shape your arrival.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before departing so you're ready at the entrance without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having for a full evening.
• Arrive early. Give yourself time for downtown Laguna Beach parking and traffic, especially during summer tourist season and weekend performances.
• Dress in layers. Laguna Playhouse is an indoor venue, but coastal evening temperatures in Laguna Beach can be cool during arrival and departure, so a light layer is useful.
• Build extra time into your transit plan. Weekend performances and summer evenings can bring heavier traffic and fuller parking areas around downtown Laguna Beach.
• Check the bag policy in advance. Reviewing the venue's guidelines before packing prevents delays at security.
