About Southern Utah Thunderbirds Women's Basketball

Southern Utah Thunderbirds Women’s Basketball competes at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), which the program joined in 2022. Southern Utah University was established in 1897, and the Thunderbirds identity is tied closely to campus pride in Cedar City — with red and white as the program colors and “Thor” the Thunderbird representing the brand on game day.

The Thunderbirds play home games at America First Event Center, a multipurpose on-campus arena in Cedar City. Opened in 1985 and formerly known as the Centrum, it seats approximately 5,300 and hosts both men’s and women’s basketball along with campus events and commencement.

The program also has longstanding regional rivalries from its Big Sky Conference era, including Weber State and Northern Arizona.
