About Robert Morris Colonials Basketball

Robert Morris men’s basketball competes at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Horizon League, a move the program made in 2020 after decades building its reputation as a perennial contender in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Robert Morris began NCAA Division I competition in 1976, and the Colonials have earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, including trips in 2009, 2010, and 2015, often fueled by NEC Tournament championship runs. Notable leaders in program history include former head coach Mike Rice and longtime head coach Andy Toole, who guided RMU through championship moments and the transition into a new conference slate.

On home dates, the Colonials play at the UPMC Events Center on the Robert Morris University campus in Moon Township, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh metro area). Opened in 2019 with an approximate capacity of 4,000, the arena’s modern design and mid-major scale create a game day environment that brings fans close to the court and keeps the building engaged from warmups through the final possession.

In the Horizon League, RMU’s schedule features new conference matchups that can quickly become must-see dates, including developing rivalries with programs like the Youngstown State Penguins and Cleveland State Vikings. The Colonials also carry long-running NEC-era rivalry history with teams such as Mount St. Mary’s, Wagner, Central Connecticut State, and St. Francis (PA), and the Pittsburgh-area connections with the Duquesne Dukes and Pittsburgh Panthers draw added local interest when they’re on the calendar. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Robert Morris Colonials Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.
