About Northern Iowa Panthers Football

Northern Iowa Panthers football is an NCAA Division I FCS program established in 1895 and competing in the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC)—a league widely regarded as one of the premier conferences in FCS football. UNI’s history includes a 1960 NAIA National Championship and a Division I-AA national runner-up finish in 2005. The Panthers’ tradition is also defined by standout names tied to the program, including Kurt Warner, Bryce Paup, Dedric Ward, and David Johnson.

On game day, the Panthers play at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Opened in 1976, the UNI-Dome is a domed, climate-controlled multipurpose stadium with an approximate football capacity of 16,000. The enclosed design helps create an atmosphere known for amplified crowd noise, turning close fourth quarters into a true home-field advantage.

In the MVFC, Northern Iowa regularly draws strong demand for rivalry matchups—especially against North Dakota State and South Dakota State. Longstanding conference rivalries with Illinois State and Youngstown State also date back to the Gateway Conference era, and occasional in-state games versus Iowa State carry extra meaning after UNI’s notable upset wins. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Northern Iowa Panthers Football tickets early is the smartest move.
