About Kentucky State Thorobreds Basketball

Kentucky State men’s basketball competes in NCAA Division II as a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The program’s defining era came in the early 1970s, when Kentucky State won three consecutive NAIA national championships (1970–1972)—a dynasty stretch that remains the signature achievement in school history. Legendary Thorobreds from that title run include Travis “Machine Gun” Grant and Elmore Smith, both of whom went on to play professionally.

The Thorobreds play their home games on campus in Frankfort, Kentucky at the Kentucky State University Exum Center (William Exum Center). With an approximate capacity of 2,750, the arena delivers an up-close college basketball setting where fans can follow every possession and feel the momentum swing as the game builds toward tip-off and beyond.

In SIAC play, Kentucky State’s schedule features conference matchups that help drive demand—especially games against fellow HBCU opponents across Alabama, Georgia, and surrounding states. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Kentucky State Thorobreds tickets early is the smartest move.
