About Carson-Newman Football

Carson–Newman football is a long-standing college program competing in NCAA Division II as a member of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). The Eagles built a championship legacy with five NAIA national championships (1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989), including an era-defining run that featured six national title game appearances from 1983 through 1989.

A central figure in that history is Ken Sparks, the legendary head coach who led Carson–Newman from 1980–2016. Sparks guided the Eagles to all five national championships and became one of the winningest coaches in college football history across all divisions, shaping the modern identity of Carson–Newman football for decades.

On Saturdays in Jefferson City, the Eagles take the field at Burke-Tarr Stadium, an on-campus home venue with an approximate capacity of 7,500. The setting is known for a close-to-the-action feel, with dedicated local and alumni support creating a proud, community-first game day experience.
