About Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre

Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre is an outdoor amphitheatre located at 5968 Marietta Rd in Chillicothe, Ohio. The venue has been associated with the Tecumseh! outdoor drama since the production began its run there in 1973, and it is operated by The Scioto Society, Inc., a nonprofit organization that produces the show. With approximately 1,800 outdoor amphitheatre seats, the venue offers a focused, seasonal performance setting in a rural hillside environment northeast of Chillicothe.

The amphitheatre is best recognized as the permanent home of Tecumseh!, one of the nation’s established outdoor historical dramas. The production dramatizes the life of Shawnee leader Tecumseh and has been staged at the venue for more than five decades. In addition to the main summer drama, Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre hosts seasonal theatrical performances and occasional special events and shows during the warmer months.

The venue’s defining experience is its open-air setting: large outdoor stages, tiered seating beneath the stars, and a wooded natural backdrop that supports the production’s live action, battle re-enactments, horses, and pyrotechnic effects.

Driving and Parking: Driving is the practical way to reach Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre. The venue is in a rural setting outside Chillicothe, and on-site parking is available at the amphitheatre. Because guests arrive by car and then walk through the grounds toward the seating area, arriving early gives you more time to park, pass through entry, and settle in before the performance begins.

Entrances and Access: Guests enter the venue grounds from Marietta Road and pass through the box office and gate area before continuing to the amphitheatre seating. Ticket verification takes place at the gate or box office prior to entry.

Seating Levels: Seating is arranged in tiered outdoor rows facing the large stage area. Rows descend toward the performance space, giving the amphitheatre a natural hillside feel and creating a direct orientation toward the production.

Getting to Your Section: Staff and signage help direct guests to seating sections. Because the venue includes outdoor terrain, hillside pathways, and tiered seating, comfortable footwear is recommended for walking from parking to the amphitheatre and moving through the seating area.

How Much Do Tickets to Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre Cost?

Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre ticket prices vary widely depending on the type of event, the production, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from free or low-cost community performances to premium reserved seating for the main outdoor drama.

For Tecumseh! outdoor drama performances, reserved tickets are typically priced at approximately $15 to $75. Seat location is a major factor, with seats closer to the stage and premium reserved areas generally priced higher than rows farther back.

For community and special performances, tickets can range from free to approximately $18. These dates may offer a more affordable way to experience the amphitheatre while still enjoying the outdoor setting and seasonal atmosphere.

Buying earlier generally gives you better seat selection for the seasonal drama performances. As inventory shrinks and the performance date approaches, the best remaining sections can become harder to find, especially for popular summer dates.

Seat choice can affect both proximity and perspective, especially for a production that uses movement, staging, horses, re-enactments, and effects across the performance space.

Best Seats at Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheatre

• Best value: Rows farther from the stage are typically the most affordable, while still keeping you within the amphitheatre’s open-air setting and full-stage view.

• Best overall experience: Center sections closer to the stage offer the fullest view of the production’s staging, movement, and effects, making them a strong balance of sightline and atmosphere.
• Premium and group options: Premium reserved seating is offered for the main drama, and group arrangements are commonly accommodated for the production.
• General seating when available: Some dates, including free or community performances, may use general seating, while the main drama uses reserved seating.
