About Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre

Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre is an outdoor amphitheatre at 699 South State St, Orem, UT 84058. Operated by SCERA — Sharon’s Community Educational Recreational Association — the venue is part of a nonprofit community arts organization with roots dating to 1933. The outdoor shell theatre was established in the mid-20th century as SCERA’s summer performance space and holds approximately 3,000 guests across fixed seating plus lawn and hillside areas, with capacity varying by configuration.

The venue is a central part of Orem’s summer cultural calendar, presenting an outdoor season that includes concerts, full-scale musical theatre productions, and outdoor movie screenings. Its programming spans country concerts, Broadway and vocal performances, family-friendly acts, community theatre musicals, and movies under the stars. The 2026 outdoor season includes Diamond Rio and Heather Headley, and SCERA regularly stages outdoor musicals and movie nights such as Wicked for Good.

Known locally as The SCERA Shell, the venue stands out for its covered stage shell, mountain-valley surroundings, and open-air mix of front fixed seating and rear lawn/hillside seating.

Venue Navigation

Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre has a straightforward outdoor amphitheatre layout: fixed reserved-style seating sits closer to the stage shell, while open lawn and hillside seating stretches farther back. Understanding the seating area in advance helps you choose the right ticket type and prepare for the outdoor terrain.

Entrances and Access: Guests enter from the State Street–facing grounds of the SCERA campus into the open-air amphitheatre seating area, which faces the covered stage shell.

Seating Levels: The venue uses a single open-air seating area rather than multiple indoor concourses. Fixed seating is positioned toward the front, while lawn and hillside seating are farther back, all oriented toward the stage.

Accessibility: Accessible seating and ground-level access are available. Guests needing accommodations can work with the SCERA box office before arrival.

Getting to Your Section: Staff and signage direct guests to seating areas. Because the venue includes outdoor terrain with sloped and lawn areas, comfortable footwear is helpful, especially for guests with lawn tickets.

How Much Do Tickets to Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre Cost?

Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre ticket prices vary significantly depending on the type of event, the artist or production, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from outdoor movie nights and community productions to national touring headliner concerts.

Outdoor movies and community productions are typically priced on the lower end, often making them accessible options for families and casual summer outings.

Mid-tier concerts generally fall into a moderate range, with pricing influenced by the performer, seat type, and overall demand for the date.

Headliner concerts, including national touring acts, tend to carry higher prices, especially for reserved seating closer to the stage and high-demand summer weekend performances.

Buying earlier generally secures better seat selection and pricing for popular outdoor season events. As inventory shrinks and the date approaches, prices for the best remaining reserved seats or preferred lawn options can rise, especially when demand builds around a well-known artist or production.

Getting Ready for Your Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre Event

Once your tickets are confirmed, a few practical preparations make your visit run significantly smoother — especially at an outdoor amphitheatre like this.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Mobile service in Orem is generally reliable, but saving your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshotting them before departing helps you stay ready at the gate without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having for a full evening.
• Arrive early. Arriving early for popular shows helps with parking and gives you more time to reach preferred lawn or seating areas before the event begins.
• Wear the right footwear. The venue includes lawn and sloped seating areas, so comfortable footwear is helpful, especially if you have lawn tickets.
• Dress in layers. Open-air exposure means guests should plan for sun earlier in the day and cooler evening temperatures during summer shows. Sun protection and light layers can make the night more comfortable.
• Build extra time into your transit plan. Popular outdoor season events can draw larger crowds, so give yourself added time for parking, entry, and getting settled before showtime.
• Know your entrance. The single open-air entry keeps navigation simple, and knowing whether your ticket is reserved or lawn helps you head to the right area quickly.
• Check the bag policy in advance. Reviewing the venue's guidelines before packing prevents delays at security.
