About Nicholls Colonels Basketball

Nicholls State University’s Colonels compete in NCAA Division I men’s basketball as members of the Southland Conference. The program’s modern profile was shaped during a strong stretch in the late 2010s, when Nicholls regularly sat among the Southland’s top teams under head coach Austin Claunch.

Nicholls plays its home schedule at Stopher Gym in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Opened in 1967 and holding approximately 3,800 fans, it’s an intimate on-campus arena that also serves as home to Nicholls men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. With fans close to the court, Stopher Gym can build real home-court energy—especially in Southland games.

In the Southland Conference, regional rivalries help drive demand, including matchups with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, McNeese State Cowboys, and Northwestern State Demons. • Closest to the action: Lower-level sideline and baseline seating — you’ll feel the pace and physicality up close
• Best overall view: Center-court sideline seating near courtside — strong sightlines as possessions develop across the court

Getting Ready for Nicholls Colonels Basketball Game Day

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for an on-campus arena where arrival timing and nearby lots can shape your pregame experience.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Mobile service near Stopher Gym gets congested on game days. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Give yourself extra time for entry and security, especially on high-demand nights.
• Public Transit: Limited public transit in Thibodaux; most fans arrive by car.
• Rideshare: Rideshare drop-off is available near the arena entrance.
• Bag Policy: NCAA venues typically enforce a clear-bag or small-bag policy with prohibited items including outside food, weapons, and large containers; specific limits are set by the university athletics department.
• Parking: On-campus lots adjacent to the arena are available on game days.
