About Jacksonville Football

Jacksonville football competed at the NCAA Division I — Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level as a member of the Pioneer Football League, a non-scholarship FCS conference. Jacksonville University revived its football program in 1998 at the NCAA Division I non-scholarship level, and the Dolphins captured Pioneer Football League championships during their tenure, including a notable stretch of conference success in the mid-2000s.

Over the years, Jacksonville was led by recognizable figures like head coach Kerwin Bell, who guided the program to conference success. The Dolphins operated within the non-scholarship FCS framework typical of the Pioneer Football League, producing competitive teams and serving as a stepping stone for players pursuing professional opportunities.

The Dolphins played home games at D. B. Milne Field on Jacksonville University’s campus in Jacksonville, Florida. With an approximate capacity of 7,000–10,000, it offered an intimate, campus-based setting where sightlines are close and the crowd stays connected to the action on the field.

In conference play, Jacksonville’s schedule featured Pioneer Football League matchups that helped drive interest each season. Opponents included the Davidson Wildcats, Campbell Fighting Camels (prior to Campbell’s departure), and the Stetson Hatters—an in-state Florida opponent that brought a natural regional edge. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Jacksonville Dolphins tickets early is the smartest move.
