About Eastern Illinois Panthers Basketball

Eastern Illinois Panthers men’s basketball competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). The program has made two NCAA Division I Tournament appearances (1992 and 2001), with the 2001 squad earning an automatic bid as OVC tournament champions. Notable figures connected to EIU basketball include Kevin Duckworth, Henry Domercant, and Jay Taylor, along with long-time program coach Rick Samuels.

The Panthers play their home games at Lantz Arena, located within the Lantz Building on the Eastern Illinois University campus in Charleston, Illinois. Opened in 1966, the arena holds approximately 5,300 fans and delivers a true mid-major college basketball feel—close sightlines, a loud home-court environment, and a crowd that can swing momentum during conference matchups.

In the OVC, familiar opponents help define the season, including in-state league games against SIU Edwardsville, along with recurring conference matchups like Tennessee State. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Eastern Illinois Panthers Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.
