About the Athens Rock Lobsters
The Athens Rock Lobsters bring affordable, family-friendly ice hockey to Athens, Georgia as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Founded in 2024 and beginning play in the 2024–25 SPHL season as an expansion franchise, the Rock Lobsters offer the kind of high-energy minor league hockey that keeps the pace up from the opening puck drop to the final horn.
The team plays its home games at Akins Ford Arena, located within The Classic Center complex in downtown Athens, Georgia. With an intimate, community-focused atmosphere and seating that keeps you close to the ice, Rock Lobsters game nights are built around accessibility, local pride, and an entertaining in-game experience.
As part of the SPHL — a single-A level professional league — the Rock Lobsters compete in a single-table format (no formal divisions). SPHL hockey is known for its physical, fast style, and the league also serves as a developmental step where standout players can advance to the ECHL during the season.
