About Ruidoso Downs

Ruidoso Downs, officially Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino, is a multi-purpose horse racing, casino, and entertainment complex at 1461 Highway 70 West in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico. Racing at Ruidoso dates to the late 1940s, and the track grew through the mid-20th century into a major American Quarter Horse racing destination. It is operated by Ruidoso Downs Racing, Inc., with R.D. Hubbard interests historically associated with the track.

The venue hosts live Thoroughbred and American Quarter Horse racing, major Quarter Horse stakes races, casino gaming, live music, recurring performances at the Win, Place & Show venue area, car and truck shows, and seasonal special events. Its live racing season typically runs in the warmer months from late spring through Labor Day, culminating with the All American Futurity on Labor Day weekend.

Ruidoso Downs is one of the most prominent American Quarter Horse racing venues in the United States and is especially known for the All American Futurity, the Rainbow Futurity, and the Ruidoso Futurity — landmark annual events in the sport’s premier stakes calendar.

How Much Do Tickets to Ruidoso Downs Cost?

Ruidoso Downs ticket prices vary widely depending on the type of event, the artist or race card, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from general admission racing to major stakes weekends and live entertainment.

Live racing general admission can often be free to low cost, making ordinary race days one of the most accessible ways to experience the track atmosphere.

Reserved seating, clubhouse seating, turf club access, and major stakes-day racing such as the All American Futurity typically carry higher reserved-seating prices, especially when demand builds around Labor Day weekend.

Concerts and live entertainment at Ruidoso Downs vary by act, date, and available seating or event setup. Popular performers and seasonal special events can draw stronger demand than smaller recurring entertainment dates.

For marquee stakes weekends, reserved seating and lodging are best secured well in advance. As inventory shrinks and the event date approaches, the best remaining sections can become more expensive and harder to find.

Getting Ready for Your Ruidoso Downs Event

Once your tickets are confirmed, a few practical preparations make your visit run significantly smoother — especially at an outdoor mountain venue with racing, casino, and entertainment areas spread across the complex.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before departing so you're ready at the entrance without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having for a full evening.
• Arrive early. On major stakes days, especially Labor Day weekend for the All American Futurity, crowds and parking demand peak, so give yourself extra time before the first race or scheduled event.
• Wear the right footwear. Ruidoso Downs is an outdoor venue with grandstand and apron areas, and comfortable footwear is advisable for walking between the track, casino, and parking areas.
• Dress in layers. The high-elevation mountain setting in south-central New Mexico can bring cooler evenings and variable conditions. Sun protection is useful for daytime racing, and layers help when temperatures drop later in the day. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are possible.
• Build extra time into your transit plan. Major stakes dates bring heavier arrival patterns, so planning extra time for parking and walking into the complex helps keep the day relaxed.
• Check the bag policy in advance. Reviewing the venue's guidelines before packing prevents delays at security.
