About Massey Theatre

Massey Theatre is a theater and music hall located at 735 Eighth Avenue in New Westminster, British Columbia. Opened in 1949, it was originally built in connection with the adjacent school campus and has remained an important large-capacity auditorium-style venue for the community. The theatre is operated by the Massey Theatre Society and seats approximately 1,250 guests, with a single raked auditorium bowl facing a proscenium stage.

The venue hosts a broad mix of live events, including concerts across genres, dance and ballet productions, theatre and touring productions, comedy, family shows, community performances, recitals, and graduation or convocation ceremonies. Seasonal productions such as The Nutcracker are part of the theatre’s event mix, along with professional touring shows and local performances.

As one of the largest and most established performing arts theatres in New Westminster, Massey Theatre is known for its mid-20th-century auditorium character, its large stage, and its continued role as a cultural anchor for the community.

Location & Transportation

Massey Theatre is located at 735 Eighth Avenue, New Westminster, BC V3M 2R2 — in New Westminster within the Metro Vancouver area.

Transit: Massey Theatre is served by TransLink, with the SkyTrain Expo Line and local bus routes providing practical ways to reach the area. New Westminster and Columbia stations are within reach, making transit a useful option for guests traveling from elsewhere in New Westminster, Burnaby, Vancouver, or the broader region.

Driving and Parking: On-site and nearby parking is available in the surrounding school and community campus area. Street parking is also available in the residential blocks nearby, though high-attendance performances and graduations can increase demand, so arriving early is the safest plan.

Rideshare: Rideshare and taxi drop-off work along the Eighth Avenue frontage. After larger events, brief queues can form as audiences exit the theatre, so it helps to allow a little extra time before meeting your driver.

Nearby Accommodation: Lodging is available in New Westminster and throughout the surrounding Metro Vancouver area. Additional hotel options are a short drive away toward Burnaby and downtown Vancouver.

Venue Navigation

Massey Theatre has a straightforward theatre layout, with a main public entrance leading into the lobby and a single raked auditorium facing the stage. Knowing the basic layout ahead of time helps you move from the entrance to your seats smoothly, especially on busy family-show, recital, or graduation nights.

Entrances and Access: The main public entrance is off Eighth Avenue, leading guests into the lobby and then into the auditorium.

Seating Levels: Seating is arranged across the main floor in a single raked auditorium bowl. The proscenium stage serves as the focal point, with standard orchestra-style sections organized to face the performance area.

Accessibility: Accessible seating and access are available at Massey Theatre. Guests who need accessible seating should select appropriate seating in advance so the arrangement matches their needs for the event.

Getting to Your Section: Staff and ushers assist with seating, and the single-bowl design makes section-finding straightforward. Because the auditorium is raked, expect sloped aisles and stairs in portions of the seating area.

How Much Do Tickets to Massey Theatre Cost?

Massey Theatre ticket prices vary significantly depending on the type of event, the artist or production, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from community performances and recitals to touring shows and seasonal family productions.

Dance and family productions, including events such as The Nutcracker, are often priced at approximately $48–$65, with seat location and ticket tier affecting the final cost.

Concerts and touring shows are typically mid-range, with pricing varying by act, performance type, seat location, and demand for the date.

Community performances and recitals are generally lower-priced, making them strong options for guests looking for an accessible night out at the theatre.

Buying earlier generally provides better seat selection for popular productions. As inventory shrinks and the event date approaches, the best remaining seats can become more competitive, especially for high-attendance family shows, concerts, and graduation-related events.

Massey Theatre Seating Guide

Massey Theatre’s seating layout is centered on a single raked auditorium bowl facing a proscenium stage. That setup makes sightlines easy to compare, but seat location still matters: proximity, center alignment, and row depth can all shape your experience.

Best Seats at Massey Theatre

• Best value: Rear rows farther from the stage are typically the most affordable areas and are often reflected in tiered pricing, including P2-style pricing tiers. These seats can offer a strong overall view at a lower price point.
• Closest to the action: Front orchestra rows nearest the stage put you closest to the performers, making them a strong choice for dance, theatre, concerts, and family productions where facial expression and stage detail matter.
• Best overall experience: Center sections in the middle of the auditorium generally provide the most balanced combination of sightline, sound, and distance from the stage.
• General admission, when available: Massey Theatre is typically a reserved-seating venue, though select events can use general admission formats. When general admission is offered, arriving early gives you more flexibility inside the venue.

Yes. The interactive seat map on BoxOfficeTicketSales.com shows your exact section and row placement before you buy. Getting Ready for Your Massey Theatre Event

Once your tickets are confirmed, a few practical preparations make your visit run significantly smoother — especially for busy family shows, recitals, and graduation events at this indoor theatre.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before departing so you're ready at the entrance without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having for a full evening.
• Arrive early. Give yourself extra time for parking and seating, particularly for high-attendance family shows and graduations.
• Wear the right footwear. The raked auditorium includes stairs and sloped aisles, so comfortable shoes are helpful when moving to and from your seats.
• Dress for indoor comfort. Massey Theatre is an indoor venue, so standard theatre attire and comfortable layers work well for most events.
• Check the bag policy in advance. Reviewing the venue's guidelines before packing prevents delays at security.
