About Foellinger Theatre

Foellinger Theatre is an outdoor amphitheatre located at 3411 Sherman Boulevard in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The current venue opened in 1949, replacing an earlier band shell on the site, and it is owned by the City of Fort Wayne and operated by the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department. With approximately 2,700 seats, it offers an intimate single-bowl experience inside Franke Park.

The theatre operates seasonally, primarily during the summer months from late spring through early fall. Its event mix includes concerts across genres such as classic rock, country, oldies, tribute acts, and contemporary touring artists, along with comedy, family shows, and free outdoor movie nights. Foellinger Theatre is especially well known locally for its free concert and movie programming alongside ticketed national touring acts.

The covered stage, open-air bowl, park surroundings, and location next to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo give Foellinger Theatre its classic summer-concert atmosphere.

Location & Transportation

Foellinger Theatre is located at 3411 Sherman Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN 46808 — inside Franke Park on the northwest side of Fort Wayne, immediately adjacent to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo.

Driving and Parking: Foellinger Theatre is primarily a car-oriented destination. On-site parking is available through a paved lot, with an overflow gravel lot used when crowds are larger. Access is primarily from Sherman Boulevard, and arriving early is advisable for popular shows because the lots can fill before start time.

Transit: The venue sits within Franke Park, where practical public transit options are limited. Most guests arrive by car, rideshare, or other private transportation.

Rideshare: Rideshare drop-off and pickup are workable because of the park setting and on-site parking areas. After popular events, expect some congestion while vehicles exit the park.

Nearby Accommodation: Lodging is available across Fort Wayne, including hotel clusters near I-69 and in the downtown area, which is a short drive southeast of the venue.

Venue Navigation

Foellinger Theatre uses a straightforward single-bowl layout, which makes it easier to navigate than larger multi-level venues. Knowing the outdoor setting in advance still helps with arrival timing, walking from parking, and choosing seats that match your preferred distance from the stage.

Entrances and Access: Guests enter from the Franke Park grounds and parking areas into the amphitheatre seating bowl. The seating area faces a single covered stage.

Seating Levels: Foellinger Theatre has a single-tier open-air seating bowl with roughly 2,700 seats oriented toward the covered stage. The compact layout keeps sections relatively easy to locate once inside.

Accessibility: Accessible seating and parking are available, and the venue provides ADA accommodations as a City of Fort Wayne parks facility.

Getting to Your Section: The amphitheatre’s intimate layout makes it simple to find your section, but guests should expect outdoor terrain and some walking from parking areas, including paved and gravel surfaces.

Dining Options

Inside Foellinger Theatre

Concessions are typically available during events at Foellinger Theatre, including standard snacks and refreshments. Because the venue operates on a seasonal outdoor schedule, planning concessions time before the show begins can help you avoid peak lines near start time.

Outside the Venue — Fort Wayne

The immediate surroundings are parkland and the adjacent Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, so nearby dining is spread across the broader city. Downtown Fort Wayne is a short drive away and offers a wider range of pre-show and post-show dining options.

Security & Policies

Foellinger Theatre maintains security and venue policies that are updated regularly and may vary by event. Before attending, reviewing the current policy on the venue's official website is strongly recommended.

Bag Policy: Bag restrictions may apply depending on the event and promoter. Policies can vary by show, so packing light helps make entry smoother.

Commonly Prohibited Items: Outside alcohol, weapons, and similar items are commonly restricted. Specific prohibited items can vary by event.

Entry Procedures: For ticketed events, expect digital or printed ticket verification at entry. Screening procedures may vary by event, and arriving with tickets ready helps speed the process.

How Much Do Tickets to Foellinger Theatre Cost?

Foellinger Theatre ticket prices vary significantly depending on the type of event, the artist, seating section, and demand — which is what you'd expect from a venue that hosts everything from free outdoor movie nights to ticketed national touring concerts.

Free community concerts and movie nights at Foellinger Theatre have no charge, making them a popular part of the venue’s summer programming.

Ticketed touring concerts and shows are typically modestly priced, often ranging from around $20 to $60 depending on the act. High-demand headliners can run higher, especially when seat location and demand drive prices upward.

For popular touring acts, buying earlier generally secures better seat locations and pricing. As inventory shrinks and the event date approaches, the best remaining seats can become harder to find at the most attractive prices.

Foellinger Theatre Seating Guide

Foellinger Theatre has a single-tier outdoor amphitheatre bowl with approximately 2,700 fixed seats facing the stage. Because the venue is compact and open-air, your seat choice mostly comes down to how close you want to be, how centered you want your view, and how much value you want from seats farther back.

Best Seats at Foellinger Theatre

• Best value: Seats farther back from the stage typically offer the most affordable pricing while still keeping you inside the intimate amphitheatre bowl.
• Closest to the action: The front rows nearest the covered stage give you the shortest distance to the performance.
• Best overall experience: Center sections in the middle of the bowl generally offer the best balance of sightlines, sound, and atmosphere.
• General admission: Many shows are reserved seating, while free community events may be general admission. For general-admission events, arriving early can help you choose a preferred spot within the available seating area.

Getting Ready for Your Foellinger Theatre Event

Once your tickets are confirmed, a few practical preparations make your visit run significantly smoother — especially at an outdoor venue inside Franke Park.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before departing so you're ready at the gate without needing a signal.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having for a full evening.
• Arrive early. Arrive early for popular shows, as the paved lot fills and overflow gravel parking is used.
• Wear the right footwear. The park setting includes some walking from parking lots across paved and gravel surfaces, so comfortable shoes are a smart choice.
• Dress in layers. Foellinger Theatre is an open-air venue with a covered stage, and much of the seating is exposed to summer heat, evening cooling, and potential rain.
• Check the bag policy in advance. Reviewing the venue's guidelines before packing prevents delays at security.
