About Winona State Warriors

Winona State Warriors men’s basketball has been one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II history during the 2000s, highlighted by back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships in 2006 and 2008. That era also featured one of the longest winning streaks in college basketball history: 57 consecutive wins spanning the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons, among the longest streaks in NCAA history at any level. Longtime head coach Mike Leaf led the Warriors through their peak championship run, and players like standout guard John Smith were key contributors during those title teams.

The Warriors play at McCown Gymnasium in Winona, Minnesota, where the atmosphere is energetic and community- and student-driven. Home crowds have been known for bringing strong support—especially during the program’s championship years—creating a true home-court edge on the court.
