About WIAA Mat Classic

The WIAA Mat Classic is Washington’s annual high school state wrestling championship, hosted by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and held at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. Scheduled for February 19–21, 2026, it brings together qualifiers from across the state for a multi-day title run that crowns both individual and team champions.

The tournament is a bracketed, single-site state championship contested across multiple classifications (including 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A and smaller divisions, plus girls divisions) and multiple weight classes. Wrestlers advance to the state meet through sub-regional, regional, and district qualifying tournaments, then compete through championship rounds and consolation wrestlebacks to determine place-winners down the placement line. With numerous numbered mats running concurrently on the Tacoma Dome floor, fans can follow multiple weight classes and classifications throughout the event.

At stake are individual state championships by weight class and classification, team state championships by classification (boys and girls), and placement awards for top finishers in each bracket. Recent team storylines include Tahoma repeating as 4A boys team champions at the 2025 Mat Classic, with Mead finishing close behind, and White River capturing the 3A boys crown. If you’re planning to attend WIAA Mat Classic, browsing tickets early is the smartest move.

WIAA Mat Classic Seating and Arena Information

Held inside the Tacoma Dome, WIAA Mat Classic is defined by its floor-wide, multi-mat setup — a signature look for a state meet that runs many matches at once. As one of the largest wood-domed arenas in the world (opened in 1983), the venue’s expansive floor helps create a communal, all-day championship feel, with fans tracking brackets and big moments across multiple mats.

Best Ways to Experience WIAA Mat Classic

The right access depends on what kind of tournament day experience you're after:

• Best value: Upper-level seating — a typically more affordable vantage with a broad view of the arena floor
• Closest to the action: Lower-bowl seating near the floor — feel the pace and intensity of each exchange close to the mat
• Best overall view: Higher seats for seeing multiple matches at once, or lower-bowl seats for proximity to mat-side action — strong sightlines on the mat
• For groups and premium experiences: Choose neighboring seats together in the bowl — a comfortable way for families, teams, and groups to follow the brackets across a long session

Getting Ready for WIAA Mat Classic Tournament Day

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for a long, multi-mat day where you’ll want to stay organized from the first round to the finals.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Cellular service near large events can get congested on tournament days. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Give yourself extra time for entry and security, especially on high-demand dates.
• Public transit: The Tacoma Dome is served by Tacoma Dome Station, with Sound Transit Sounder commuter rail, Link light rail (T Line), Sounder/regional buses, and intercity connections adjacent to the arena.
• Rideshare: Plan your rideshare around the venue’s designated pickup/drop-off areas, which are used near the Tacoma Dome on event days.
• Bag policy: The Tacoma Dome enforces a clear-bag policy, with small non-clear bags/clutches under the posted size limit typically allowed.
• Payment/cashless: Bring a card or mobile payment — the Tacoma Dome operates cashless for concessions and many transactions, with cash-to-card conversion typically available on-site.
• What to bring: Plan for a long session with layered clothing, and consider bringing a program/bracket sheet to help follow multiple classifications and weight classes.
• Parking: On-site and nearby lots/garages are available around the Tacoma Dome, including the Dome parking facilities.
