About Virginia Tech Hokies Basketball

Virginia Tech men’s basketball has been part of the school’s athletic tradition since 1908, and the Hokies now compete in NCAA Division I as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) (joining the ACC in 2004). A landmark moment in program history came in 2022, when Virginia Tech won the ACC Tournament championship under head coach Mike Young to secure an NCAA Tournament bid. The Hokies’ history includes notable tournament runs such as an Elite Eight appearance in 1967, and the program’s list of standout names features Dell Curry, Bimbo Coles, Allan Bristow, and Erick Green.

Home games are played in Blacksburg, Virginia at Cassell Coliseum, an on-campus arena that opened in 1962 and seats approximately 9,275 fans. Named for former athletic director Stuart K. Cassell, the building is known for its compact bowl that keeps fans close to the court, creating a tight, energetic setting on big nights—especially when ranked opponents come to town.

Virginia Tech’s biggest rivalry is the in-state matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers in the “Commonwealth Clash / Commonwealth Cup” series. The Hokies also have a regional, former Big East rivalry with West Virginia, plus high-demand ACC matchups against Duke and North Carolina that have produced memorable games and Hokies upsets. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Virginia Tech Hokies Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.

How Much Do Virginia Tech Hokies Basketball Tickets Cost?

Virginia Tech Hokies Basketball tickets typically range from around $15–$40 for upper-level and general seating to $50–$120+ or more for lower-bowl and premium courtside-area seats for marquee ACC games, with suites and hospitality packages running higher.

Prices are driven most by the opponent and demand—especially when ranked ACC teams like Duke, North Carolina, and in-state rival Virginia are on the schedule. The day of the week and the Hokies’ standing can also push pricing up, while other dates can offer stronger value if you’re flexible.

Getting Ready for Virginia Tech Hokies Basketball Game Night

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation goes a long way — especially for a high-demand ACC game night when entry lines and traffic around campus can build quickly.

• Download your tickets before you leave. Mobile service near Cassell Coliseum gets congested on game nights. Save them to your phone's wallet or screenshot them as a backup.
• Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is the standard, and your phone is your entry. A portable battery pack is worth having.
• Arrive early. Gates/doors typically open about one hour before tip-off. Give yourself extra time for entry and security, especially on high-demand nights.
• Public Transit: Blacksburg Transit serves campus with routes connecting to the athletic facilities; parking-and-ride options are common for the Blacksburg campus.
• Rideshare: Rideshare drop-off and pickup is available near campus athletic facilities.
• Bag Policy: Virginia Tech enforces a clear-bag policy at athletic venues, limiting bags to clear plastic within size limits, with small clutches permitted; prohibited items include outside food/drink and weapons.
• Payment/Cashless: Bring a card or mobile payment — Virginia Tech athletic venues operate on a cashless payment system.
