About North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks Women's Basketball

North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks Women’s Basketball is a NCAA Division I program competing in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). The Seahawks have built their identity through conference competition in the CAA (formerly the Colonial Athletic Association), with stretches of regular-season and tournament competitiveness. A key figure in program history is Karen Barefoot, who played for UNCW and later returned as the Seahawks’ head coach.

The Seahawks play home games at Trask Coliseum in Wilmington, North Carolina. Opened in 1977, the on-campus multipurpose arena is home to UNCW basketball and volleyball and seats approximately 5,200 fans. With a smaller capacity compared to many larger venues, Trask offers a close-to-the-court environment where student and local community support can be a big part of the atmosphere.

Within the CAA, matchups against conference opponents can drive demand, especially regional and in-state games. Rivalries and familiar opponents like the Charleston Cougars, Elon Phoenix, East Carolina Pirates, and North Carolina A&T Aggies add extra intensity to the schedule. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks Women's Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.

  • Public Transit. Trask Coliseum is served by Wave Transit routes in the Wilmington area, which can be a convenient alternative to driving.
  • Parking. On-campus lots near Trask Coliseum are available for events, so plan your arrival time to get parked and walk in comfortably.
  • Bag Policy. UNCW follows a clear-bag policy that limits bag size and prohibits large bags; small clutch bags are generally permitted.
