Canisius Golden Griffins Women’s Basketball is a NCAA Division I program based in Buffalo, New York, competing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The varsity program dates to the 1981-82 season and has built its identity as a blue-and-gold mid-major program representing Canisius University in Western New York.

In program history, the Golden Griffins have made one NCAA Division I Tournament appearance, with an all-time NCAA tournament record of 0-1. Over more than 40 seasons since 1981-82, the program’s all-time record stands at approximately 503-667 (.430 W-L%), reflecting the long arc of competing and developing within a competitive conference landscape.

Home games are played at Koessler Athletic Center, an on-campus, multi-purpose athletic facility that opened in 1968 and also serves as home for Canisius basketball and volleyball. With a capacity of approximately 1,800, it delivers a compact, close-to-the-action collegiate atmosphere that keeps fans near the court throughout game day.

Within the MAAC, Canisius regularly faces opponents that shape the conference season, including the Iona Gaels, Siena Saints, and Rider Broncs. The biggest demand-driver is the Niagara Purple Eagles rivalry—known across Canisius athletics as the “Battle of the Bridge,” a cross-town matchup rooted in the schools’ proximity in Western New York.
