About Alcorn State Braves Basketball

Alcorn State Braves Basketball competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), representing Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi. The Braves have a long basketball tradition within the SWAC, with multiple conference regular-season and tournament titles across the program’s history, along with NCAA Tournament appearances that include 1980 and 1983. The program’s most celebrated era is closely tied to legendary head coach Davey Whitney, and notable figures connected to Alcorn State basketball include Larry Smith, who went on to a lengthy NBA career.

Braves home games are played at the Davey L. Whitney Health and Physical Education Complex (Whitney Complex), a multi-use campus venue that opened in 1975 and is named in honor of Coach Whitney. With an approximate capacity of 7,000, the Whitney Complex delivers a lively HBCU game-night environment fueled by student support and the game-day soundscape that makes SWAC basketball unique.

Within the SWAC, several rivalry matchups can quickly become high-demand dates on the schedule.
