Show Information

Diablo Ballet was founded in 1993 as the professional dance company for Contra Costa County in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The company is based in California and performs at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, presenting a repertory approach that combines classical ballet with contemporary choreography and newly commissioned works.

As a professional ballet company, Diablo Ballet presents seasonal repertory programs rather than one fixed production. Performances typically feature a sequence of distinct dance works, with programs varying by season and performance date. A Diablo Ballet program usually runs approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the repertory being performed, and these programs typically include one or more intermissions between pieces.

The company has operated continuously since 1993, making it a long-established professional dance presence in the East Bay. Diablo Ballet is noted for acclaimed classical and contemporary dance programming, and in 2023 it expanded its educational mission by opening the Diablo Ballet School, described as the first school in the East Bay run by a professional ballet company.

Story Summary

Diablo Ballet presents repertory programs built around a sequence of distinct dance works that showcase classical ballet, contemporary movement, and newly commissioned choreography. Each performance brings together multiple pieces, giving audiences a curated evening of dance shaped by musical contrast, technical precision, expressive staging, and the artistry of the company’s professional dancers.

The experience often moves across a wide emotional and stylistic range. A single program may include the clean lines and tradition of classical repertory, the athleticism and abstraction of contemporary dance, and the freshness of new choreography created for the company. That variety is a major part of Diablo Ballet’s appeal: audiences can see different facets of ballet and dance in one performance.

No prior knowledge of ballet or dance is needed to enjoy Diablo Ballet. The programs are designed to be accessible and engaging for newcomers as well as longtime dance fans, with the movement, music, and performance quality delivering the experience directly.

Story Highlights

Diablo Ballet performances are shaped by repertory programming, where individual works combine into a varied evening of classical and contemporary dance.

Classical Repertory Works — Diablo Ballet programs feature pieces from the classical ballet canon, highlighting the precision, line, control, and tradition that define the art form. These works give audiences a close view of professional dancers performing with clarity and technique in a mid-size theater setting.
Contemporary Premieres — The company regularly presents newly commissioned contemporary works, bringing fresh choreography and innovative movement to the stage. These premieres give each season a sense of discovery and help place new dance alongside established repertory.
Mixed Repertory Evenings — Signature Diablo Ballet programs combine multiple shorter works of contrasting styles. The format gives a single performance a dynamic rhythm, shifting across tone, music, mood, and movement while showcasing the company’s range.
Educational and Community Performances — Diablo Ballet extends its mission through outreach and school-connected programming that enriches and educates children and adults. This community focus connects the company’s mainstage work with its broader role in Contra Costa County and the East Bay.

Diablo Ballet Seating Guide

Diablo Ballet performs at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California, a theater setting that supports the company’s intimate, high-caliber dance programming. Where you sit shapes how you experience the dancers’ technique, formation changes, musicality, and movement detail.

Best Seats for Diablo Ballet

The best seats for Diablo Ballet depend on whether you prefer a close-up view of technique or a wider view of the full stage picture.

Best value: Upper mezzanine and rear orchestra sections often provide strong sightlines at a more accessible price point, especially for mixed repertory programs where seeing the full stage is helpful.
Closest to the stage: Front orchestra sections place you near the dancers, making it easier to see facial expression, footwork, and the physical detail of each movement phrase.
Best overall experience: Mid-orchestra and front mezzanine sections usually offer the strongest balance of proximity and perspective, giving you a clear view of both individual dancers and ensemble formations.
For families with young children: Sections with aisle access can make arrival, seating, and intermission movement easier. Since Diablo Ballet programs typically run approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and generally include intermissions, families can plan for breaks between pieces.
For groups: Coordinate contiguous seats early, since blocks in popular orchestra and mezzanine sections can sell through quickly for seasonal repertory performances.

Yes. The interactive seat map on BoxOfficeTicketSales.com shows your exact section and row placement before you buy. Getting Ready for Show Night

Once your tickets are confirmed, a little preparation makes the full experience run smoothly from arrival through the final bow.

Download your tickets before you leave. Cell service around the theater can be congested on busy performance nights. Save your tickets to your phone's wallet or screenshot them before heading out so you're ready at the door without needing a signal.
Charge your phone fully. Digital ticketing is standard at most theaters. A portable battery pack is worth having, especially if you're combining the show with dinner or other activities.
Arrive at least 30 minutes before curtain. Theater doors open well before the show begins; arriving early gives you time to find your seats and settle in before the house lights go down — and avoids the disruption of late seating, which many theaters restrict.
Plan for the intermission. Diablo Ballet repertory programs typically include one or more intermissions between pieces, and lines for concessions and restrooms can build immediately after the act break.
Know the venue's phone and photography policy. Audiences are typically asked not to record or photograph during live performances, and silencing phones helps protect the focus of the dancers and the experience of nearby guests.
For families. Diablo Ballet programming is generally appropriate for most ages, with family-friendly programming common. Since specific content varies by program, plan around the length of the performance and use intermission time to help younger attendees reset before the next piece begins.
