About Washburn Football

Washburn football competes in NCAA Division II as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). With a program history dating to the late 19th century as one of Kansas’s oldest college programs, the Ichabods have built a reputation for steady, competitive play in one of Division II’s toughest football conferences. Under long-tenured head coach Craig Schurig, Washburn has produced numerous winning seasons, highlighted by a 9-3 campaign in 2021.

A key part of the Washburn game-day experience is seeing the Ichabods take the field at Yager Stadium (at Moore Bowl) on the Washburn University campus in Topeka. With an approximate capacity of 7,200, the venue keeps fans close to the field and creates a classic college-football atmosphere where every big play feels personal.

Washburn’s MIAA slate includes several matchups that consistently draw attention across the region. Rivalry games against the Emporia State Hornets, Pittsburg State Gorillas, and Fort Hays State Tigers add extra intensity and can drive ticket demand.
