About Baylor Basketball

Baylor men’s basketball has been a part of the university’s tradition since 1906, and the Bears have built a nationally elite identity in the Big 12 Conference. The program reached the sport’s summit with one national championship, winning the 2021 NCAA Tournament title with an 86–70 victory over Gonzaga in the national championship game. Under head coach Scott Drew, Baylor’s rise has included multiple Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles, including the 2020–21 Big 12 regular-season championship, and a championship era defined by toughness and high expectations.

The modern story of Baylor basketball includes standout names like Jared Butler (a consensus All-American and the 2021 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player), defensive anchor Davion Mitchell, and NBA first-round pick Perry Jones III. Baylor has also celebrated impactful Bears like Isaiah Austin, whose career was cut short by a Marfan syndrome diagnosis ahead of the 2014 NBA Draft. With Scott Drew at the helm since 2003, Baylor has become a perennial contender and consistent NCAA Tournament participant.

On game day, Baylor plays at Foster Pavilion, a downtown Waco arena opened in 2024 with a capacity of approximately 7,000. Built near campus and downtown, the venue’s compact, modern design places fans close to the court, creating a loud atmosphere that has quickly become a signature part of the Baylor experience.
