About Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars Basketball

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), with Cougars basketball representing Edwardsville, Illinois in red and white. A landmark achievement in program history came in 2025, when the Cougars won the OVC Tournament title and earned their first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance after a standout 22–12 season in 2024–25. The program also owns a signature historic accomplishment from its Division II era: the 1982 NCAA Division II National Championship team.

Cougars home games are played at First Community Arena (at the Vadalabene Center), an on-campus multipurpose facility that opened in 1984 and also houses SIUE volleyball. With an approximate capacity of 4,000, it’s built for an intimate, close-to-the-court experience where fans are near the action, and the student section and pep band help drive the atmosphere on game night. Eddie the Cougar is a fixture at home games, adding to the campus feel that makes SIUE basketball a strong live-event option in the Metro East.

As an OVC program, SIUE sees plenty of conference matchups that can shape standings and postseason positioning, and several opponents tend to generate extra buzz. Rivalry and high-interest games include Southern Illinois Salukis, UT Martin Skyhawks, and Eastern Illinois Panthers, with in-state non-conference matchups against the Illinois Fighting Illini also drawing regional interest. If there’s a specific rivalry game you’re targeting, browsing Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars Basketball tickets early is the smartest move.
