Petco Park was built specifically to house the San Diego Padres baseball team, but the managers of the venue are keen to encourage folk to think of it as a versatile site for parties and events of all kinds. (Picture the field dotted with formally set tables – snowy tablecloths, wine glasses, napkin rings – and a bride and groom toasting each other.)
The views of its spectacular surroundings – the city skyline, the beach, the Pacific Ocean - are worth the price of admission. Opened in 2004 Petco Park is relatively new stadium, built so that the Padres would no longer have to share a field with the Sandiego Chargers football team.
The venue was known as an extremely “pitcher friendly” park until the Padres announced plans to move the fences around in order to remove the unfair advantage and make the stadium more friendly to hitters.
