189 Yonge St., Toronto, ON M5B 1M4
The Elgin Theatre is part of the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres complex: a pair of stacked theatres in Toronto, ON, Canada, that are the last of their kind in the world. Commissioned by Marcus Loew and designed by Thomas Lamb, the Elgin Theatre opened in 1913 and was originally called Loew’s Yonge Street Theatre. While the Winter Garden Theatre was designed to have an outdoorsy feel, the Elgin Theatre has an ornate gold leaf motif. The Elgin Theatre Box Office has a number of great events going in 2014. In April, Opera Atelier presents “Persée,” a retelling of the Greek myth of Perseus. Meanwhile the Winter Garden Theatre will feature a concert by Amanda Martinez, followed in May by Royal Wood, the popular Canadian singer-songwriter. The Elgin and Winter Gardens Theatres complex is an amazing and beautiful set of theaters, that host all sorts of amazing and beautiful events.
