A 2,600-seater proscenium theater, the Orpheum Theatre is strategically located at 409 South 16th Street Omaha, Nebraska. With its highly theatrical form, the theater has served as the venue for famous acts including the Opera Omaha performance and the Broadway Across America-Omaha series. The structure was built in 1927 as a vaudeville house through the selfless support of John A. Creighton. Upon its completion, a beautiful pipe organ was installed right away for the first performance within its premises. Though it gained a lot of attention during its opening, the first two decades of the structure had been very rough especially when the art of vaudeville began to lose its popularity. Due to the extremely diminishing revenue of the structure, it was closed down in 1971, only to be reopened in 1975. In the succeeding years, the property has had a lot of renovations due to its age-old base and form. Nevertheless, it withstood the test of time and has even provided a venue for sensational performances from Red Skeleton, Opera Omaha, and Beverly Sills.
