The stated mission of Miller Auditorium is “to enlighten, entertain and educate.” Residents of Kalamazoo Michigan and especially of Western Michigan University are fortunate to have a theatrical venue rated among the top ten in the country. The venue was to be built in 1915, but two world wars and the depression intervened and the building was not completed until 1968. It was worth the wait. Far from a vehicle for stuffy high culture, productions are geared to students’ tastes and include pop music concerts, comedy and TV stars, dance, and classic and jukebox musicals. Shows based on Disney and children’s book characters please families, while adults-only comedy appeals to students.
Tickets can be purchased individually, or in subscription packages like Broadway in West Michigan, a choice of four shows, or E-Club special offers. Subscribers also receive perks: preferred parking, the best seats, exclusive discounts and deals, and occasionally, surprise free tickets!
