Merriweather Post Pavilion

Located in the heart of a planned community in Columbia, Maryland, the Merriweather Post Pavillion is an outdoor concert venue boasting an impressive scenic background. First open in 1967, during the heart of the outdoor concert era of the Sixties, the amphitheatre is one of the more pristinely conditioned arenas, and is cared for by many members of its respected community. Originally intended to be a summer home for the National Symphony Orchestra, it later became very popular for music concerts and the entertainment industry. The current capacity is nearly 20,000, and the outdoor stadium was designed eloquently by world-famous designer, Frank Gehry. It is regarded as one of the more contemporary amphitheatres in the United States, and has not needed any remodeling, only yearly upkeep, since it opened its doors several decades ago. Many famous musicians have played in the arena, a trend that will most likely continue into the near future.
