Variety is the goal of the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center, a west Texas (Midland) theater that is aggressively eclectic. The facility was built for use by The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UTPB). As it turned out, that’s not the half of it. Want intellectual stimulation? Here’s lecture series featuring Ben Stein. Is country western more your line? Catch up with Trisha Yearwood. Children’s Theater? Sleeping Beauty. Broadway? Les Miserables. One Doobie Brother? Mike McDonald. Stand-up? George Lopez. There’s something everyone in the Wagner Noel lineup. This in addition to university events such as recitals, holiday celebrations and the West Texas Guitar Festival. Education is a big part of the Wagner Noel’s mission.
No restored venue, the theater opened in 2012 and sports an angled brick façade replete with rectangular windows and a curved seating arrangement tracing c’s and s’s all over the auditorium. The venue provides plenty of onsite free parking for patrons.
